MeritO Farm
MeritO Farm is the first coconut plantation in Thailand which received international standard accreditations for organic agriculture, integrating sustainable farming and conservation work. Over four decades ago, the farm emerged along with the establishment of the coconut oil business and its requirement to have owned harvest of raw material for better procurement and control. The farm later supplied the expanded canned coconut milk manufacturing which then became Merit Food Products Company (MFP) since 1993.
The 350-hectare farm in Tha Mai District of Chanthaburi province is today enriched with one-third of the area preserved for biodiversity and natural reserves, while the rest is dedicated to an island of ‘MAWA’ coconut groves.
The MAWA species bears smaller shell fruit but with ticker kernel and higher fat content, providing suitable combination for the best quality coconut milk. The MAWA coconut also possess an outstanding resistance to the local insects and diseases, and has a marvelous compatibility with the monsoon climate of Thailand. At MFP, we have diversified various products made from MAWA such as coconut milk, coconut water, coconut oil, coconut flour, desiccated coconut and etc., all under the umbrella brand named ‘MeritO’.
Since 2003, the MeritO brand has been organically certified in compliance with many major international standards including; IFOAM (the International Federation of Organic Agriculture movement), ACOS of Australia, COR of Canada, EC834/2007 of the European Union, JAS of Japan, NOP of USA, SA of England, and Orgânico of Brazil.
MeritO was the very first, and to date, the only coconut product in Thailand to achieve such recognition integrating both the producing at the farm and throughout the processing at the factory. Consumers today accept our organic concept, which is truly the proof of impact that our organic way of life causes to the world.
Our organic farming method is completely chemical-free at every stage of farm management. By building up a good and deep soil structure together with the growth of beneficial underground aerobic microbes, we have achieved natural ecological soil reclamation and fertility. By conducting the ‘prey and predator mechanism’ bio-control, the termination of our enemies is prevalent within the farm to eliminate the pest infestation.

Our Folks
Our ultimate goal is to grow towards sustainable farming, while practicing biodynamic and detoxication for the natural soil and water. We try to generate a self-sufficient cycle of agribusiness in the farm combining plants and livestock with which all elements can be dependent on one another.
Because learning is infinite, and so MeritO Farm will continue to study and develop agricultural mechanism which ensures food hygiene and safety for consumers worldwide. We will also protect diversity of the nature and conserve it for the next generations to come.
Another unique approach at MeritO Farm is basically to work closely and hand-in-hand with the non-profitable ‘Earth Net Foundation’, encouraging other conventional coconut farmers around the country to convert to organic. MeritO buys the harvest from contracted farmers under a fair and premium organic price scheme, together with other non-cash contributions. This increases the sustainable income among the converted farmers, and effectively expands the size of contracted farmer groups.
